A mobile home was ruined Wednesday night after it caught on fire northeast of Arkansas City.

Ark City, Winfield and Udall fire departments responded at 9:09 p.m. to the 14000 block of 101st Road for a structure fire. A neighbor called to report the fire, which quickly spread through the house. Another neighbor, who was on scene, mentioned that the owner of the house was not home at the time, but a pet may have perished in the fire.

Firefighters were able to log the fire under control at 9:53 p.m. Due to the rural location, water tankers had to return to Ark City and refill water at AC Greenhouse.

A propane tank near the house was a concern of personnel who were responding, but did not ignite.

Cowley County deputies checked the surrounding areas to ensure the fire didn't spread beyond the house.

Fire crews wrapped up the scene around 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

More information will be released when it becomes available.
