House fire damages second story

Firefighters removed charred insulation through a second story window Tuesday night at 302 E. Seventh Ave., in Winfield after a fire was reported at the residence.

A house fire Tuesday night in Winfield began under suspicious circumstances, a Winfield Fire/EMS Department spokesperson said Wednesday.

A cause of the fire has not been determined, but it started in multiple places, said Capt. Patrick Ramirez, with the Winfield Fire/EMS Department.

The fire was reported around 8 p.m. Tuesday at 302 E Seventh Ave. Most of the damage was on the second floor of the residence, Ramirez said. At the scene Tuesday night, firefighters were seen removing charred insulation through a second-floor window. A hole had been cut in the exterior wall next to the window.

Ramirez said no one was home when the fire started. Firefighters stayed on the scene until midnight. No injuries were reported.

A damage estimate was not immediately available.

Fire departments from Arkansas City, Udall and other towns provided mutual aid.
