A child who died Thursday after a possible drowning incident was an 18-month-old boy, and the case remains under investigation, an Arkansas City official said Friday.

Police and fire-EMS departments were dispatched at 5:04 p.m. Thursday for a report of a possible drowning in the 800 block of South Boyer Road, in southeast Arkansas City.

Officials arrived to find CPR was being administered to a child. EMS personnel took over the life-saving efforts, according to a press release issued late Thursday.

The child was transported by ambulance to South Central Kansas Medical Center, where he later died.

“The drowning victim was an 18-month-old boy,” police spokesperson Andrew Lawson said in an email Friday afternoon. “The incident remains under investigation and the ACPD has no additional information to release at this time.”
