Winfield and Burden EMS responded around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to the 14000 block of 112th Road for a reported traumatic injury, according to initial radio traffic.

A man was reported having difficulty breathing after falling from a 20-foot grain bin. An EagleMed helicopter was requested and was instructed to land at the scene in a field.

A Burden officer arrived first at the scene where he informed incoming emergency services that the man was going to be an immediate patient (Code Red).

EMS reported to EagleMed that the patient had an open fracture on one of his arms after falling approximately 20 to 25 feet. They also reported he may have struck something on the way down. EagleMed touched down at 6:02 p.m. in a field next to where the grain bins are located. They took flight at 6:24 p.m. in route to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, according to scanner communications.

Cowley County deputies were on scene to assist.

An update will be conducted Wednesday.
