Habitat for Humanity breaks ground on 2020 home

The 2020 Winfield Area Habitat for Humanity home is officially under way following groundbreaking June 27. Participants include, from left, David Bates, Habitat board member; home partner, Heather Gondoly and her four children; Valerie Billonis, family support partner; Lee Evans, general contractor; and Ashlynn Showalter, Habitat vice president and event host.

The 28th home built by the Winfield Area Habitat for Humanity is officially under way following groundbreaking at the site on June 27. Although footings had been poured, the event marked the official start of the building season.

This year’s home is for Heather Gondoly and her four children, who helped to turn over the first dirt at 606 E. Fourth Ave. The house is sponsored by Men of Winfield and funds are being solicited for its completion.

Habitat board vice president Ashlynn Showalter introduced the Gondoly family, and family support partner Valerie Billonis presented flowers.

Each year building materials and other construction-related costs of the Habitat home are funded by a special drive among interested persons. Last year’s home was the third to be sponsored by the Women of Winfield, and this year men are being encouraged to donate.

To participate in the campaign, send donations to: Winfield Habitat for Humanity (memo MOW) P.O. Box 335, Winfield, KS 67156.
