Donald Cage, 57, of Wichita is the person who died Tuesday afternoon in a motorcycle accident on U.S. 77 Highway.
A gray 2008, Yamaha motorcycle, driven by Donald Cage, 57, of Wichita, was traveling northbound on U.S. 77 when the front tire failed. Cage and his passenger, Rebecca Cage, 57, of Wichita, were thrown from the motorcycle, according to a report by the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office.
Neither rider was wearing a helmet, Sheriff Dave Falletti confirmed Wednesday.
The accident occurred about 1/4 mile south of Cowley Cinema 8. Both were transported to the South Central Kansas Medical Center by ambulance. Donald died at the hospital from his injuries. The condition of Rebecca was not known at the time of this release.
Authorities on scene said the front tire of the motorcycle blew out and the driver lost control going about 70 mph, the highway’s posted legal speed limit.
The motorcyclist driving in front of the accident victims told law enforcement that he saw the motorcycle out of control in his rearview mirror and immediately put on the brakes to help after the incident.
