A 911 call about a shot fired at Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor on Friday morning turned out to be an apparent suicide, according to press release fro the Manor.

The call indicated a shot had been fired at the community, the statement says, but it was not an active shooter incident.

“An independent living resident died by an apparent suicide this morning at Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor,” the release states. “To protect the privacy of the resident and his family, Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America (PMMA) will not be releasing any specific information about the manner of his death.

At no time were any other residents or staff members in danger.”

According to scanner communication, medical personnel were called at 12:46 p.m. in response to an unresponsive person with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The person was pronounced code black, or dead, at 12:50 p.m.

Support services are being offered for staff members or residents to cope with the tragedy, the release states.

“Our hearts go out to the resident’s family during this difficult time,” the release states.
