Plans are already under way for the 2020 Cowley County Pride celebration June 7 at Island Park in Winfield.

Entries for a logo contest are being accepted now through Feb. 21, according to Pride organizer JJ Proctor.

Recommendations for the logo design:

• Keep it simple.

• Include a rainbow somewhere in the design.

• Incorporate Cowley County Pride (or CCP) into the design.

• Include other county symbols, such as a bridge.

• Leave the interpretation up to the viewer.

Submit entries through the CC Pride Facebook page or email

A T-shirt and Poster contest will immediately follow the logo contest and run from Feb. 25 through March 9.

The winning T-shirt/poster design will include:

• the winning logo design.

• one’s own creative insights.

• very few colors.

• be cohesive.

Use the same methods for submitting these entries as for the logo entries.

JJ Proctor, Roger Moon, and Proctor’s mother, Tanya Chancellor, are heading up the Cowley County Pride Committee this year.

“We were talking about the event, and my mother had so many good ideas, we said she had to be on the committee,” Proctor said. “She agreed.”

They are also looking for at least two people from Arkansas City to serve on the organizing committee.

“We want to get more voices heard,” Proctor said.

A general planning meeting is sometime in March. Look for more information in the newspaper or on the CC Pride Facebook page.
