Grocery and variety store targeted for Winfield Plaza

The former Save-A-Lot in Winfield is set to be home to a new retailer, Mini-Max Grocery Store.

A new grocery store is scheduled to open soon at Winfield Plaza, in a space that has held several other grocery stores in years past, although few details are available so far.

And the former J.C. Penney, located next to the future grocery store, will apparently become Mini-Max Variety Store, according to signs on the doors Thursday. Shelves containing small kitchen appliances were seen from the front windows.

Handwritten signs in the front window of the empty Save-A-Lot on East Ninth Avenue announce that Mini-Max Grocery Store is coming soon, with a projected opening date of July 1 and more details to follow. Open interviews have been held at the store this week, with the next one from noon to 2 p.m. today.

A store manager at the site on Thursday afternoon said more details about the store would be released next week.

A search for Mini-Max came up with a few different results, although it is unclear if any of those are connected to the Mini-Max that will open in Winfield.

Spokespeople at the Winfield Area Chamber of Commerce and Cowley First economic development agency said this week they did not have any information about the store. A call to Winfield Plaza LLC, which owns the property, was not immediately return Friday afternoon.
