One man was taken to the hospital Wednesday night after striking a road sign and a light pole north of Arkansas City.
The driver of a silver Chevy Silverado was traveling northbound on U.S. 77 Highway when he lost control of the vehicle, turned west toward 252nd Road and struck a yield sign. The truck continued west and struck a light pole, spinning the vehicle onto the west side of the intersection, according to a deputy on scene.
The light pole dismounted from its foundation and nearly landed on live power lines. The man was not seriously injured during the accident, but may have suffered some medical complication that caused the accident, an Ark City fire official said. Cowley County Dave Falletti said Thursday there was no update on the wreck.
He was transported to South Central Kansas Medical Center in serious condition, according to radio communications. Westar Energy was called to the scene to correct the light pole. Cowley County deputies and Ark City fire/EMS responded at 9:27 p.m., followed by Bruton’s Towing removing the vehicle around 10 p.m.
The intersection was closed intermittently.
