Fifteen years ago a young music teacher by the name of Matt Berthot had a vision for a yearly event that would pack the Winfield High School auditorium.
The show would highlight selections from Broadway shows and Disney musicals. It would combine vocal performances with choreography that would challenge his students. The production would give audiences a taste of live theater.
And perhaps most important, it would create a culture that provided Berthot’s students with a sense of belonging.
Little did Berthot know that “Vikings on Broadway” would one day gain international attention.
Berthot has been selected to present in August at the Estill World Voice Symposium in London, England.
He will take a small team of current and past VOB participants to give the symposium a small taste of what a show entails.
This is an expensive endeavor. In order to help defray some of the cost, a Vikings on Broadway Alumni Benefit is at 7:30 p.m. June 21-22, in the WHS auditorium.
Some returning alumni include Alessandra Bevilacqua, Olivia McClung, Phoebe Muldrow, Mariah Warren, Jay Buffum, Kylie Groom, Sam Ross and Adam Cantu.
Reserved tickets are now on sale. They are available at two levels. Patron tickets are $30 and include choice of seating and recognition at the show. Reserved tickets are $20. General admission is $10 at the door.
