Two one-vehicle injury accidents took Cowley County Sheriff’s Deputies to different parts of the county on Wednesday.
Deputies responded at 8:55 a.m. to the intersection of 322nd Road and U.S. 77 Highway for a one-vehicle rollover accident.
Gerald Wilkerson, of Missouri, was northbound in the 33000 block of U.S. 77 when he lost control of his green Chevrolet Cavalier and entered into the east ditch. The vehicle traveled through the ditch, eventually rolling over and coming to rest.
Wilkerson was transported by ambulance to South Central Kansas Medical Center for treatment.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at 12:23 p.m. to 101st Road and 92nd Road for a one-vehicle injury accident.
Brandy Long, of Arkansas City, was eastbound on 292nd Road when she lost control of her red Toyota Corolla, left the road and entered into the south ditch. The vehicle continued to travel through the ditch until it came to rest in a hedge row.
Long said that her accident on Wednesday afternoon, was not totally due to loss of control of her vehicle.
Another vehicle was oncoming around a curve, prompting her to move over and sliding on a slick spot, causing the accident.
The other driver stopped to ensure Long was unharmed and offer assistance.
Long also stated she was operating the vehicle on a spare tire, not helping the situation.
She refused medical treatment at the scene.
