Winfield man bonds out after drug arrest near school

A Winfield man was arrested July 17 after an investigation linked him to the sale of drugs near a school, according to authorities.

Members of the Winfield Police Department; the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office; the Arkansas City Police Department; the Cowley County Drug Task Force, assisted by the Southern Kansas SWAT team; and Kansas Bureau of Investigation executed a search warrant in the 500 block of East 14th Avenue in Winfield. Lowell Elementary is about two blocks away.

Following an investigation, George Manuel Olivas, 37, of Winfield was arrested on an existing warrant, and he was also charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A defendant’s guilt or innocence is to be determined by a court of law.
