Winfield police have apprehended three juveniles suspected of burglarizing vehicles and are trying to return the recovered property to its rightful owners.

According to a press release from the Winfield Police Department, at around 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 6 officers responded to a call about three juveniles opening the door of a vehicle in the 14th Avenue and Andrews Street area. Officers located the juveniles in the 800 block of East 14th Avenue and began investigating a possible burglary to a car.

As the investigation continued, potentially stolen property was located on one of the suspects. Police contacted a possible victim of car burglary on John Street, who confirmed the property was theirs and had been stolen.

All three suspects were detained. After further investigation, police learned the juveniles could have been responsible for burglarizing 20 to 30 unlocked vehicles around the Cherry Street Park area during the morning hours.

According to the release, several citizens have contacted the police department and some of the recovered property has been identified, but there is still more property waiting to be identified. Anyone who had their vehicles burglarized in the Cherry Street Park area of Winfield is encouraged to contact Lt. Gary Bortz at (620) 221-5556 to help return the stolen property.
