Museum Friends to hear about advertising curtain

Cheri Nichols stands in front of an advertising curtain found in a Rock school. Nichols will speak about the curtain at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Museum Friends meeting. The public is welcome.

An advertising curtain that at one time was in the school at Rock will be the topic of the Museum Friends program presented by Cheri Nichols at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Cowley County Historical Museum.

The stage backdrop is now displayed at the museum.

Nichols will give a brief history of stage art, including painted backdrops, drapes and curtains. These were used in many venues beginning in the early 1800s. Many of the artists who created theater curtain displays or advertising curtains had been house and sign painters. Advertising curtains were sometimes found in rural schools such as Rock.

Everyone is invited to attend.
