Lions Clubs around the world have sponsored the Lions International Peace Poster contest for more than three decades in local schools and youth groups.

The Lions International Peace Poster contest gives children an opportunity to express their ideas of peace and in doing so, helps shape passionate leaders for the future.

The theme of the 2019-20 Peace Poster Contest is “Journey of Peace,” bringing peace to the world through one child at a time.

The 2019-20 placers of the Winfield Lions Club Peace Poster contest were:

• First place — Nakhai Baby;

• Second place — Addison Potucek;

• Third place — Coralee Moon.

Students 11 to 13 years old by Nov. 15 were eligible to participate. Winfield Middle School students of Deanndra Williams submitted their posters to the Winfield Lions Club Peace Poster committee.

Each poster was judged on originality, artistic merit and expression of the theme.

Posters advance through several judging levels: local, district, multiple district and international.

At the international level, judges from the art, peace, youth, education and media communities select one grand prize winner and 23 merit award winners.

The local posters can be viewed at the Winfield Arts and Humanities Gallery from Nov. 4 to Dec. 2.
