The Friends of the Winfield Public Library welcome The Wizards of Acoustic Guitar to its annual Pickin’ Parlor to get people ready for the Walnut Valley Festival. This free concert is at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the library, 605 College St., in Winfield.

The Wizards of Acoustic Guitar feature Brian Henke, Helen Avakian with Dave Irwin and Mark Sganga, all in town for the festival.

Henke, of Bay Village, Ohio, is a multi-award winning virtuoso acoustic guitarist. His sound includes every style people can think of on acoustic guitar. He describes it as “a big stewpot of everything, stirred up, simmered and served to taste.”

Avakian, of Madison, Wis., is the 2014 International Fingerstyle Champion. She has won numerous songwriting awards, including seven first prizes and four honorable mentions from the New Songs Contest at the WVF. Her music has been favorably compared to Tori Amos, Jewel and Natalie Merchant.

Dave Irwin will join Avakian. Irwin has been performing jazz and fingerstyle guitar for over two decades.

Sganga, of New York, is the 2009 International Fingerstyle Guitar Champion. His musical style epitomizes “World Music.” Sganga has performed in the United States and Europe and has played command performances in India with violin virtuoso L. Subramaniam.

Everyone is welcome. For more information, call (620) 221-4470 or visit www.wpl.org or www.facebook.com/WinfieldLibrary.

The library is open 1-5 p.m. Sunday; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
