Walter Nichols will celebrate his 80th birthday on Jan. 10. His family is requesting a card shower in his honor. 

Nichols was born in Rock, the third child of Cecil and Frances Nichols. In 1946, the family purchased a farm north of Winfield.

Nichols attended Olive and Bethel rural schools, then finished fifth and sixth grades at Bryant Grade School. He attended and graduated from Winfield High School in 1958.

He and Cheri Jones were married in 1961. In 1964 they purchased the Davis Paint Store at 811 Main.

Nichols retired in 2010 after 46 years in the retail business as Nichols. Nichols enjoyed and mastered his specialty, custom picture farming.
