Arkansas City High School students, Avery Givens and Halle Riggs have been selected to perform with the Kansas Music Educator Association Honor Band. Givens plays the flute, and Riggs plays the clarinet.

They were selected Nov. 4 from a competitive audition of 600 plus musicians from 50 different area schools at Andover Central.

The KMEA Honor Band performed in concert Dec. 2 at Wichita East High School. Dr. Tremon Kizer, acclaimed international conductor, led the band. Kizer is a conducting fellowship winner.

Chris VanGilder is the students band director. Hans Judd is their associate band director. Dr. Karen Craig is Riggs’ professor of clarinet and winds at the V.J. Wilkins Center for the Performing Arts in Arkansas City.
