Celebration of Unity in Ark City for Dr. Martin Luther King Day

Cowley College is host to a celebration of unity for Dr. Martin Luther King holiday at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Brown Center Theatre in Arkansas City.

Charles Jennings has organized the event themed, “The Infinite Power of Hope.”

A reception will follow in the Wright Room across the hall. Cookies, punch and coffee will be served.

The keynote speaker is Patricia Fields, a national licensed addictions counselor with more than 10 years of experience. She is a Kansas-certified problem gambling counselor, a Kansas interventionist for problem gambling, and a Kansas-certified peer mentor. She’s in Wichita State University’s graduate program working toward a master’s in Clinical and Mental Health Counseling.

Fields is the founder of Chrysalis Center Inc., a behavioral health agency. Chrysalis Center, Inc., assists individuals and families in developing healthy relationships by addressing substance abuse addiction, domestic violence, anger management and providing life coaching.

She is involved in several different community advocacy organizations, such as the Wichita/Sedgwick County Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Coalition, Millair Neighborhood Association, and the South Central Kansas Program Gambling Task Force.

Fields has served in women’s ministry for more than 30 years at various levels. She is a member of Living Water Worship Center Church of God in Christ, where she serves in various capacities, such as church administrator.
