Middle school IT Camp gets under way; high school IT Camp approaching

David Hays works with the Middle School IT Camp.

Students from South Haven, Caldwell, Wellington, and Medford, Okla., were among the 22 individuals taking part last week in the Middle School IT Camp conducted by Cowley College Natural Science Department instructor David Hays at the Caldwell Community Building in Caldwell.

KanOkla Networks arranged the building and handled the marketing of the camps. The KanOkla interns are assisting with morning icebreakers and Hays has been impressed with the students in the camp.

Cowley has partnered with KanOkla Networks and the Workforce Alliance of South Central Kansas to also provide a High School IT Camp, set for Monday through Friday.

Participants will learn animation via MITs Scratch and the Blender software program. In addition, both the middle school and high school groups will learn coding via Python starting with the Turtle library that makes programming fun and easy to learn.
