Holy Name Catholic Church invites all of those who believe in the sanctity of human life to help us REVERSE THE RULING. The Kansas Catholic Conference (www.KansasCatholic.org), which is the official voice of the Catholic Bishops of Kansas on matters of public policy, is helping to lead the way in reversing the ruling of the Kansas Supreme Court. Earlier this year, the Kansas Supreme Court took power from Kansas voters and created a nearly unlimited “right to abortion” in our state constitution. Prior to the ruling in Hodes & Nauser, MDs v. Schmidt, abortion restrictions and loving options for women in crisis pregnancies had helped reduce the Kansas abortion rate by almost 50 percent.

Now after the state Supreme Court ruling, even taxpayer funded, late-term abortions could become legal in Kansas.  Furthermore, the Kansas Supreme Court has allowed live dismemberment abortions to continue. Documentation from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment tells us that approximately 12 babies in Kansas die each week through this barbaric procedure. That is more than 600 babies every year.

The only way to realistically overturn this horrific decision and place limits once again on the abortion industry is to REVERSE THE RULING by amending the state constitution. To do this, we will need the support of a two-thirds majority in both the Kansas House and Senate. From there, voters will need to let their voices be counted at the ballot box in 2020.

If you would like to make our great state of Kansas a more loving and caring place to live where babies in the womb are allowed to be born and grow and have a full life, please stop by our church (use main doors on south side) or church office before Nov. 16 to sign a petition or postcard calling upon the members of the Kansas Legislature to REVERSE THE RULING by amending the Kansas Constitution. Once passed by the legislature, the amendment can then be decided by voters at a future election.

Our church is located at 412 E. Eighth Avenue in Winfield. The church is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The church office is directly west of the church and is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 to 4 p.m.

The Rev. Ken Schuckman is pastor of Holy Name Catholic Church in Winfield.
