Vehicle catches fire near WHS

The cab area of a 2017 Freightliner was almost completely burned away after a vehicle fire was reported Tuesday afternoon at Winfield High School. The truck belongs to Cornejo and Sons, which has been resurfacing the asphalt parking lots and roads around the school. The truck caught on fire for unknown reasons, Capt. Patrick Ramirez with the Winfield Fire Department said. One person was evaluated at the scene for burns to his hands and possibly to his head before being transported to the hospital by private vehicle, Ramirez said.
