Winter weather looms

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Friday night and Saturday for southeast Kansas, including Cowley, Sumner, Sedgwick, Butler, Elk and Chautauqua counties. A heavy mixture of winter weather is possible, with snow accumulations between 3 and 6 inches expected, along with ice accumulations of around 1/10th of an inch. Winds are expected to gust as high as 35 to 40 mph with the storm. The storm is expected to develop Friday afternoon, with rain transitioning to snow before moving east of the Kansas Turnpike on Friday evening. Snowfall is expected to by heaviest before noon Saturday morning.
