Richard Ernest “Dick” Prewett, 76, of Arkansas City, passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2019, at his home.
Cremation has been effected according to his wishes. A memorial service is at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.
Dick was born June 16, 1943, in Beloit, the son of Ernest Salisbury and Alice Elaine (Yunker) Prewett. He graduated from high school in Beloit.
He married Linda Sue Giddings in May 1960 in Beloit. To this union, two children were born, Pamela and Rance. The couple later divorced.
He married Betty Louise (Derr) Palmer in March 1976. The couple made their home in Arkansas City, where he worked many years at Rodeo Meats. After the packing house closed, he owned and operated B & R Painting in Arkansas City. He most recently owned Prewett’s Small Engine Repair. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf.
He was preceded in death by three siblings, LV Prewett, Johnny Prewett, and infant sister, Ardith.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; his children, Pam Rutter (Barry), of Carbondale, Rance Prewett (Jill), of Blue Springs, Mo., Merry Tipton (Jeff), of Arkansas City, Sherry Stahl, of Andover, Terry Young (Jeff), of Springhill, and Perry Palmer, of Denver; his sister, Mary Miller, of Daytona Beach, Fla.; his grandchildren, Brea Sissom (Sam), Tori Lee (Jesse), Kaleb Prewett, Kyler Holloway, Hayden Holloway, Kyle Tipton, Lacey Tipton, Ashton Stahl, Darcey Stahl and Katlyn Stahl, Drew Young, Brenton Young, Danae Young, and Alexandra Palmer; and 12 great-grandchildren.
