Velda Stewart, 81, of Roff, Okla., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019.
A graveside service was Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Lightning Ridge Cemetery in Roff. Pastor Steve Wilburn officiated. Criswell Funeral Home of Ada, Okla., was in charge of arrangements.
Velda attended Hastings High School in Hastings, Okla., and graduated in 1956. She continued her education at Oklahoma College for Women, graduating in 1961 with a bachelor’s degree. She earned a master’s degree in 1964 from East Central University in Ada, Okla.
Velda taught at Arkansas City High School for 32 years. She married Carl Dwain Stewart on June 30, 1962. He was a teacher and an elementary principal at Arkansas City elementary schools. After retiring, she and Dwain moved back to Roff. Mrs. Stewart was a member of the Fitzhugh First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwain Stewart; a sister, Ernestine Massey; an infant son, Paul Dwain; and her parents.
Survivors include a son, Darin Stewart and wife, Tiffaney, of McKinney, Texas; and a granddaughter, Emmye Stewart.
