Elmer E. Staten, 82, of Arkansas City, passed away Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery Chapel.
A memorial has been established for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions can be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home and Crematory.
Elmer was born Oct. 31, 1936, to Walter D. and Goldie Louise (Foust) Staten, in Blackwell, Okla. He was reared in Blackwell and attended Blackwell schools.
He married Iona Creekmore on March 15, 1955, in Perry, Okla. The couple made their home in Blackwell, Okla., before settling in Arkansas City in 1965. Elmer worked as the maintenance man and mechanic for Memorial Lawn Cemetery for many years. He also did small engine repair in his garage. Elmer loved to tinker on engines and work on stuff, but most of all he cherished his family.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Iona; two brothers, Bobby and Lonnie; and a grandson, Deacon Staten.
Survivors include his daughter, Debbie Crawford and husband, Brad, of Oxford, Mich.; son, Buddy Staten and wife, Karen, of Arkansas City; brother, Richard Staten, of Blackwell, Okla.; grandchildren, Chris Crawford and wife, Traci, of Bay City, Mich.; Ashley Crawford, of Rochester, Mich.; Dustan Staten and fiancé, Jessicah, of Arkansas City; Jaren Staten, of Arkansas City; and four great-grandchildren, with another on the way.
