Harold Vernon Cook, Jr., 73, passed away March 11, 2019, in Memphis, Tenn.
A memorial service was held May 23, 2019, at the Veterans’ Cemetery in Winfield, where his remains were laid to rest.
Born Aug. 10, 1945, Vernon was raised in Arkansas City and graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1963.
Vernon entered the Navy in August 1963. After his honorable discharge, he spent several years in private life before reenlisting in the Navy. He served on several carriers doing aerial photography. His last station was in Norfolk, Va.
He retired in 1992 to private life to do security work.
Vernon enjoyed bowling and doing computer friendships.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Sr. and Ruby Cook, and a sister, Paula.
Survivors are a brother, Bill Cook and wife, Kathy, of Arkansas City; a sister, Judy Proctor and husband, Alvin, of Osage, Okla.; a niece, Valerie Proctor; and nephews, Tony Proctor and Jeff Cook.
