Jessie Wilford Smith, 94 of Arkansas City, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield.
A private family interment will take place.

Jessie was born May 31, 1925, to Ray F. Smith and Mary J. (Sanders) Smith, in Ponca City, Okla. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 during World War II, receiving various medals including the Purple Heart. He married Charlet A. Winegarner on Jan. 8, 1973, in Sedan. The couple made their home in Arkansas City. Jessie was a miller and supervisor at Dixie Portland Flour Mill in Arkansas City for 45 years.
Jessie was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Barbara Thomas; and wife, Charlet in 2005.
He is survived by his stepson, Bruce Winegarner and wife, Melinda; step-daughter, Kim Mayfield and husband, Dennis; and five grandchildren.
