H. Dean LaVelle

Minister H. Dean LaVelle, 84, of Arkansas City, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, at his residence.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Bible Christian Church. Burial will follow in Parker Cemetery. Friends can greet the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home and Crematory.

Dean was born June 21, 1935, to Victor A. and Bessie B. (Brandon) LaVelle, in Colorado Springs. He was reared and educated in Colorado Springs and graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1953. After high school, Dean attended San Jose Bible College, then transferred and graduated from Midwest Christian College in Oklahoma City in 1960.

Dean married the love of his life, Phyllis Kraxberger, on Dec. 31, 1954 in Arriba, Colo. The couple made their home in San Jose, Calif., then Oklahoma City while Dean finished his degree at Midwest Christian College. During college, he ministered at Union Home Church of Christ in Glencoe, Okla. After graduation, he ministered at Cashion Christian Church in Cashion, Okla., from 1960 to 1962; First Christian Church in Shidler, Okla., from 1962 to 1965; and First Christian Church in Coweta, Okla., from 1965 to 1970. The family moved to Arkansas City in 1970. Dean was the minister for the Bible Christian Church for 44 years until his retirement in 2014.

Dean loved his family deeply and enjoyed many special times camping and fishing with his grandchildren and family.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Phyllis; his parents; his sister, Lela Snively; and a granddaughter, Allison Luree Frick.

Survivors include his children, Gary LaVelle and wife, Robbie, of Bridge Creek, Okla.; Deanne Splechter and husband, John, of Arkansas City; Grant LaVelle and wife, Anissa, of Carl Junction, Mo.; grandchildren, Aubrey Baker, Allen Carter and wife, Heather, Evan LaVelle, Kerri Wolf, Andrew Splechter and wife, Kathryn, Lily Long and husband, Jason, Ariel Webb and husband, Kevin, Ashley Weece and husband, Justin, Emily, Ean, and Erik LaVelle; great-grandchildren, Matylin, Emma, Paisley, and Garrison Baker, Caris and Avalyn Carter, Landyn and Kayden Frick, Jasmine, Kiera and Emmett Wolf, Lucy Webb and Easton Splechter; and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and friends.
