Joanita M. Lawrence, 94, of Winfield, passed away Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019, at William Newton Hospital.
Following Joanita's wishes, her body has been donated for medical and educational research. Her cremains will be buried in Highland Cemetery in Winfield, and no services are scheduled.
Joanita was born Sept. 22, 1925, in Winfield, to John Smith Lawrence Jr. (1892-1964) and Mildred Irene (Wise) Lawrence (1898-1983).

Joanita graduated in 1943 from Winfield High School and in 1945 from Salt City Business College of Hutchinson. She was employed by Edw. B. Stephenson and Co., CPA and was honored by the company in 2010 for a 65-year career after retiring due to a stroke.
She was a devoted member of the Winfield Church of Christ, where she taught children's Bible classes for many years. Joanita was involved in various capacities with Winfield Rest Haven from its establishment. She was fond of animals, especially horses and dogs. Her Sheltie, Tippy, was a therapy dog at Rest Haven.
Joanita built her house in 1969 west of Winfield on U.S. 160 Highway in Vernon Township. Following a stroke, she moved to Winfield Rest Haven's independent living apartments in 2010.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, John M. Lawrence, Gerald E. Lawrence and Paul E. Lawrence; a sister, Dora C. Mundinger; a nephew, a niece and a great-nephew.
One sister, Patricia Chrisler, of Winfield, survives. Also surviving are her beloved nieces and nephews, greats- and great-greats. She loved being called “Auntie Jo.”
