Mary K. (Degner) Mai, 94, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019 at her home in Winfield.
A Mass of Christian burial is at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at Holy Name Catholic Church. Burial is at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Russell Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Mary’s name can be made to the Holy Name Catholic Church and Holy Name Catholic School. Contributions can be left in care of Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.
Mary K. Mai was born June 1, 1925, in Jennings, Okla., to loving parents Richard and Kathryn (Stumpf) Degner. She attended grade school in Oklahoma, and later the family moved to Great Bend, where she graduated from high school. She then attended Great Bend Junior College, where she was a member of Beta Sigma Phi.
Mary and Karl Mai Sr., married June 18, 1949, in Great Bend.
Mary was an avid golfer. She started in 1970 and was a member of Quail Ridge Golf Club. She attended the Winfield Coffee Club, was a member of the Newman Book Club and the Holy Name Altar Society. Mary also served as a Pink Lady for 10 years at William Newton Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl; her parents; a sister, Helena Wallace; and three brothers, Herman, Otto, and Franklin.
Surviving to honor her memory are her children: Karl Mai Jr., Jan Dreiling, and Kent Mai; and 13 grandchildren.
