Michael W. “Mike” Cox, 73, of Arkansas City, died Saturday, June 1, 2019, at South Central Kansas Medical Center. Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Friday, June 7, at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. A time of fellowship and food will follow at Spring Hill Golf Course. The Rev. Stephanie Wall-Brown will officiate.

Mike was born June 17, 1945, in Arkansas City, to Edgar and Cova (Short) Cox. He was reared and educated in Arkansas City, graduating from Arkansas City High School in 1963. Mike attended Arkansas City Junior College (Cowley College) and graduated Wichita State University with a bachelor’s degree. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Mike worked for the City of Arkansas City many years as city treasurer, then city clerk, holding both positions until he retired. He completed many hours of training to earn city clerk certification.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Richard and Don.
Survivors include his daughters, Amy Cox and Michaelene Contreras; a brother, Edwin Cox and wife, Judy; and three grandchildren, Anthony Contreras, Austin Contreras, and Josiah Cox, all of Arkansas City.
