Ernest Michael “Mike” McCoy, 72, of Arkansas City, left this world peacefully with his family at his bedside on Monday, June 10, 2019, at his residence.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 13, at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City. Burial will follow in Hope cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.rindt-erdman.com.
Mike was born July 7, 1946, to Ernie and Marjorie (Campbell) McCoy, in Vallejo, Calif. After moving to Arkansas City, Mike attended Frances Willard Elementary and graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1964. He continued his education at Cowley College.
Mike worked various jobs. A favorite was press setter at The Kansas City Star. He also worked as a supervisor at Cessna and later joined his father at McCoy Engine Service, which he took over and worked until his retirement.
One of his greatest passions was being a member of the Ark City Tumbleweeds, where he served as president and treasurer. Mike took great joy in helping with the “Last Run” Car Show and being a part of the community service they provided. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion and the Geuda Springs Racing Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Timothy McCoy.
Mike is survived by his wife, Gayla McCoy, of the home; son, Michael McCoy and wife, Kathy, of Arkansas City, daughter, Michelle Weber, of Blackwell, Okla., son, Ryan Miller and wife, Regina, of Gilbert, Ariz., and daughter, Lacy Catron and husband, Casey, of Arkansas City; grandchildren, Braileigh, Kirsty, Ashley, Caitlynn, Brett, Morgan, Kailee, Christopher, Ryker, Brody and Rylee; two great-grandchildren, Remington and Christopher Michael; brother, Patrick McCoy, of Arkansas City; sister, Anne Honeymann and husband, David, of Fort Smith, Ark., and sister, Debbie Alba, of Sahuarita, Ariz.
