Barbara Jean Bowman, 85, of Arkansas City, passed away Friday, March 13, 2020, at South Central Kansas Medical Center.
Graveside services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, at Riverview Cemetery. Pastor Kyle Carlson will officiate.

Barbara was born March 3, 1935, to Vernie A. and Lois E. (Vannest) Archer, in Parsons. She attended elementary school in Coffeyville and Winfield. She attended high school in Dodge City, then finished in Winfield, graduating in 1953. After high school she attended St. Mary’s Nursing School, where she received her nursing certificate.
She married Earl Bowman on June 20, 1959 in Winfield. The couple made their home in Arkansas City. Barbara worked at the Winfield State Hospital, William Newton Hospital and Arkansas City Memorial Hospital for many years until her retirement. She was also a homemaker and housewife. She was a member of Mount Zion Community Church.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl; two brothers, Jerald and Alan Archer; a sister, Beverly Archer; a granddaughter; and a great-grandson.
Survivors include her children, Terrye Giamanco, of San Diego, Carl Bowman and wife, Dawn, Tommy Bowman and wife, Crystal, and Becky Widener, all of Arkansas City; brothers, Dale Archer and wife, Linda, of Claremore, Okla., and Ronnie Archer and wife, Mary, of Bethany, Okla.; sister-in-law, Maria Archer, of Severn, Md.; 15 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one unborn great-grandchild; and one unborn great-great-grandchild.
