Carolyn Marie (Phipps) Davis was born Sept. 5, 1951, in Wellington, the daughter of Merle and Ethel May (Carson) Phipps. She was a 1969 graduate of Oxford High School. Carolyn met Michael Davis when she was 16 and fell in love with the “bad boy” from Wichita right away. They married on Aug. 30, 1969 and had just celebrated 50 loving years. Carolyn worked for 10 years as a pianist for Belle Plaine High School, where she played in musicals such as “Oliver,” “Hello Dolly,” “South Pacific” and “The Music Man.” She was an accomplished musician, winning State at a piano contest in high school, among many other awards. Carolyn could play any instrument she put her hands on and became a very good banjo picker. She also loved teaching kids how to play piano.
She taught aerobics for 12 years during that time and traveled to exciting places across the country, pursuing her love of fitness.
Carolyn later worked as a paraprofessional at Oxford schools in the library and computer labs. She loved the students and the people she worked with at the school and talked about them still in her final days. Carolyn had a deep love for animals and adopted many dogs and cats and even had some chickens, all of which had names.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Elvin Phipps and Johnny Phipps.
Survivors include her husband, Michael Davis, of Oxford; daughters, Angela Askins, and Jennifer Davis Howard and husband, Alex, all of Oxford; and five grandchildren, Mikhail Davis, Emily Askins, Melodie Hunt, Sadie Askins, and Ty Askins.
