Betty Storey

Betty Kay Storey, 84, of Arkansas City, passed away Friday, Jan. 24, 2020, at South Central Kansas Medical Center in Arkansas City.

Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at Shelley Family Funeral Home in Arkansas City. Burial will follow at Ninnescah Cemetery, south of Udall. Visitation is from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Shelley Family Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Betty was born on July 22, 1935 at home in rural Udall, the daughter of Albert V. and Edith Elaine (Effner) Holmes. She attended Udall High School. She married Francis H. Storey on March 19, 1951 in Clark County, Texas. Betty worked at Peerless Bakery in Winfield for a time. She retired after 32 years with Binney & Smith Crayola Factory.

Betty was a member of Udall United Methodist Church and the Binney & Smith 25 Year Club. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and arts and crafts, and loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; brother, Barry Holmes; daughter, Lavonna Deffenbaugh; and great-granddaughter, Lillian McPherson.

Her family includes her daughter, Deb Hargrove and husband, Larry, of Arkansas City; her son, Randy Storey and wife, Rebecca, of Udall; her son-in-law, Wallace Deffenbaugh, of Derby; her sister, Allene Kistler and husband, Roy, of Udall; her brother, Ray Stephen Holmes, of Udall; her grandchildren, Amy and Brent Pinion, of Arkansas City, Matthew Llamas, of Arkansas City, Amber Llamas and fiancé, Jeremy Samson, of Arkansas City, Tim Hargrove and wife, Miranda, of Arkansas City, Megan Voyles and husband, Eric, of Wichita, and Andrew Storey and wife, Allie, of Andover; her great-grandchildren, Allison, Braydon and Brody Pinion, Lauren and Paige McPherson, Kelsey and Kyanna Llamas, Jamee Gigliotti, Jayda Redelman, Macie Voyles, and Jace and Norah Storey.
