Fayeann Sandstrum, 80, of Winfield, passed away Monday, July 13, 2020, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
Her family will hold private graveside services at a later date at Wilmot Cemetery. Memorial contributions for Fayeann can be made to the Cowley County Humane Society and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Contributions can be left in care of Shelley Family Funeral Home, 803 Loomis St., Winfield, KS 67156.
Fayeann was born Oct. 23, 1939, in Winfield, to parents Philip and Evelyn (Garoutte) Sandstrum. Fayeann graduated from Winfield High School in 1956 and from Kansas State University in 1960, later earning a master’s degree from Emporia State University. She enjoyed reading and spent most of her life teaching English. She primarily taught in Leavenworth and Wichita until she suffered an aneurysm and was forced to retire. Fayeann loved being involved in programs such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and Girl Scouts. She was also a member of Prairie View Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Fayeann is survived by her brother, Phil (Karen) Sandstrum; nieces, Michele (Manuel) Barron, Melissa (David) Green, Marla (Darryl) White, Amy (Danny) Winslow, and Ashley (Braden) Moore; stepniece, Penny (Kelly) Lister; 10 great-nieces and nephews; and good friends and caregivers, Donna and Paula.
