Donna Wollard-Sauzek

Donna Jean Wollard-Sauzek, 92, passed away Monday, July 1, 2019, at her residence, Joy Home, in Oxford.

Funeral services were Saturday July 6, at Oxford United Methodist Church.

Donna Jean Wollard-Sauzek was born Feb. 7, 1927, in Baker, to Ernest Carl and Edna Maude (Clouse) Boss. She attended schools in Baker, Powhattan and Horton. She graduated from the Wichita VO-Tech school in 1976 with a Dietary Manager’s degree.

She married John Siebenmorgen of Robinson in 1944. They later divorced.

She married William Louis (Tate) Wollard of Geuda Springs on Jan. 26, 1956. Most of their married life was spent on dairy farms in Cowley County. Both were active 4-H club leaders several years and served as a host family to seven foreign students: four veterinarians from Kenya, one man from Nigeria, one man from Southern Rhodesia, and one girl from Norway.

Donna began working in 1983 at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center, where she served as a dietary supervisor for eight years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Wichita District State and National Dietary Managers Association while employed there and served as secretary of the state association for three years. She attended the national Dietary Convention in Washington D.C., Nashville, Tenn., Orlando, Fla., Las Vegas, Nev., and St. Louis, Mo. She was a member of the Arkansas City Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and a past member of the Gideon International Auxiliary.

The Wollards retired to Oxford in the late ’90s and were active members of the First Baptist Church for several years. Donna served as a Sunday school teacher, junior choir director, pianist, organist and member of the adult choir. She worked at the Riverview Manor Nursing Home several years and managed the Oxford Friendship Center for eight years. Mr. Wollard passed away Dec. 16, 1997.

She met Gus E. Sauzek in 1999 at the Oxford Friendship Center, where they combined their musical talents entertaining residents in nursing homes in the Sumner and Cowley counties area. She played the piano and he sang. They married Sept. 25, 1999. After her marriage to Mr. Sauzek, she became a member of the Oxford United Methodist Church, where she served as organist until retiring in February 2012. She was a member of the Home Builder’s class and the United Methodist Women. She served as organist for many funerals and weddings in the community. Mr. Sauzek passed away May 8, 2007.

Donna moved in June 2015 to the Joy Home in Oxford, where she resided until her passing.

Donna was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; brother, Martin Boss; and adopted son, Scott.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Lind and husband, Col. George M. “Mike,” of Arkansas City; two sons, Carl Wollard and wife, Jennifer, of Arkansas City, John Wollard, of Arkansas City, and adopted son, Alan Wollard, of Winfield; three stepsons, Ed Sauzek and wife, Carolyn, of Ponca City Okla., Roy Sauzek and wife, Deana, of Wellington, and Larry Sauzek and wife, Jean, of Oxford; and a cousin, Arlen Endicott, of Arkansas City. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 15 stepgrandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 26 stepgreat-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
