Rufus “Leroy” Renz, 76, of Arkansas City, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2019, at the Robert J. Dole V.A. Medical Center in Wichita.
Memorial services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
A memorial has been established in Leroy’s name for the Arkansas City Friends Church. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Born Feb. 25, 1943, in Monroe, La., Leroy was the son of Gerhard Frederick and Artie May (Stoddard) Renz. While Leroy was still young, the family moved to Arkansas before making their home in Wichita. He was raised and educated in Wichita, graduating from North High School in 1961. He then attended Wichita State University for a year before joining the United States Air Force. Leroy was stationed at Schilling Air Force Base until its closing. He was then stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Neb. While in Nebraska, he met and married his first wife, Kathren Ferguson, in March 1967.
Leroy married Vera “Helen” Whiteman on Aug. 15, 1981, in Arkansas City, where the couple made their home. He was a member of Ark City Friends Church and enjoyed stamp collecting, technology, cooking and traveling with Helen.
Helen preceded him in death on Dec. 9, 2015. Leroy was also preceded in death by his parents and his stepson.
He is survived by his son, Steven (Michelle) Renz; his daughter, Sheila (Renz) Green; his stepdaughter, Meredith Willard; his brother, Paul T. Renz; his sisters, Judy (Jerry) Scholl and Ruby Renz; five granddaughters and numerous great-grandchildren.
