Elizabeth Jean “Betty” Nellis, 91, of Arkansas City, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2020, at Medicalodge of Arkansas City.
Celebration of life services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Central Christian Church in Arkansas City. Private family burial is at Parker Cemetery. The Rev. Dennis Voth will officiate.
Cremation has been effected.
A memorial has been established with Central Christian Church. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Betty was born May 5, 1928, in Grover, Colo., to Albert Earl and Bernice (Cowley) Howard. She moved to Cedar Vale with her family in 1931 and to Dexter in 1938. She graduated from Dexter High School in 1946. Betty married Melvin Nellis on Sept. 27, 1947, in Dexter. The couple moved to Arkansas City in 1952. Betty worked as a legal secretary and spent many years as secretary for the Central Christian Church. She was a longtime member of Central Christian Church, working with the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. Betty also served with the Arkansas City Memorial Hospital (SCKMC) Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Melvin.
Survivors include two sons, Lee Nellis, of Saranac Lake, N.Y., and Alan Nellis and wife, Patricia, of St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, Anna Ferdowsian and husband, Kevin, Stephen Nellis and wife, Marlize, and Henry and Jacqueline Nellis; and great-grandchildren, Sarah, Ivan and Arthur.
