Monica June McCollum Pullmann, 68, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, died Saturday, June 6, 2020, at her home.
Military interment will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2020, at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Monica’s church. Donations can be sent to Dietz Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 3684, Omaha, NE 68103.
Arrangements are in the care of Maher Funeral Home, Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Monica was born Feb. 1, 1952, in Arkansas City, to Barton Owen and Betty June (Patterson) McCollum. She was raised in Winfield, where she attended Winfield Public Schools. She graduated from high school in 1970 and continued her education by studying music at Pittsburg State University, home of the Gorillas.
Monica married Mark Pullmann and they moved to Grand Island, Neb. After their divorce, she joined the United States Navy and served her country in numerous locations: Jacksonville, Fla., Sigonella, Sicily, and Omaha, Neb. She completed her Navy career with an honorable discharge. Monica had lived in Omaha, Neb. for the past 30 years.
Monica enjoyed cooking, especially for large groups. She worked at Lady Caroline’s Tea Room, and cooked at the local senior center and at a local bed and breakfast. She enjoyed all forms of dance and was a member of Omaha Christian Singles, The Ladies on the Fly and Midwest Glampers.
Monica attended Dietz Memorial United Methodist Church in Omaha, Neb. She enjoyed taking part in her daighter Michael Elizabeth’s activities. She was an active stage mom, sewing many dance costumes not only for her daughter but for many of the other dancers. She was a Girl Scout leader, which was her way of instiling the love of camping in other young ladies.
Monica was preceded in death by her father and mother.
She is survived by her daughter, Michael Elizabeth Bathen (Dustin), granddaughter, Charlie, and grandson, Dean, of Fort Campbell, Ky.; sisters, Robyn McCollum and Linda Silvers (Gene), and brother, Stephen McCollum (Susan), all of Winfield; brother, Dee Jay McCollum (Suzanne), of Decatur, Ala.; brother, Barton “Shorty” McCollum Jr., of Pryor, Okla.; Stepfather, Charles Harris, of Douglass; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles; and her precious sidekick and faithful service dog, Snickers.
