Vernon L. Baucom, 86, of Winfield, passed away early Wednesday morning, Oct. 23, 2019, at Winfield Rest Haven.
Following his wishes, cremation has taken place. Private family services will be held at a later date. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established in Vernon’s name for the Winfield Community Food Pantry. Contributions can be made through the funeral home. Online condolences can be made at www.milesfuneralservice.com.
Born June 22, 1933, in Winfield, Vernon was the son of Elmer and Emma (Anglemyer) Baucom. He was raised and educated in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School. Following school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and proudly served his country in the Korean War.
Vernon married Frances Shively on June 22,1956, at the Burden United Methodist Church. He worked as a baker for more than 40 years, primarily at Rainbow Bakery, until retiring in 1994. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, tinkering in the yard and watching sports. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Kennedy, and daughter, Lisa Fouch.
His family includes his wife, Frances Baucom, of Winfield; his sons, Lesley Baucom, of Arkansas City, Wesley Baucom and wife, Martha, of Wellington, and Clay Baucom and wife, Sandy, of Winfield; and eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
