Virginia F. Burkett, 75, of Arkansas City, died Thursday, July 4, 2019, at the Presbyterian Manor Health Care Unit of Arkansas City.
Memorial services are at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 12, at the Bible Christian Church in Arkansas City. Pastor Richard Leighton will officiate. Cremation has been effected. Burial will follow in Parker Cemetery.

Virginia was born July 9, 1943, in Newkirk, Okla., to James and Frances (Vaughn) Hynd. She was reared and educated in Newkirk, graduating from Newkirk High School. She later attended Cowley College. Virginia married Karl F. Burkett on Oct. 6, 1973, in Wichita. The couple moved to Arkansas City in 1984. She worked as the church secretary at the Bible Christian Church for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Karl, in 2013; sister, Catherine Bennett; and brother, James “Edward” Hynd.
Survivors include her children, Karla and husband, Phil Cook, of Fort Scott, Mary Bowlby, of Arkansas City, and James and wife, Kim Burkett, of Maize; brother, Kenneth Hynd, of Newkirk, Okla.; sisters, Betty and husband, Jake Lewis, of Wichita, Maxine DeLong, and Judy and husband, Lee Bowling, of South Carolina; grandchildren, Austin and Madison Cook, Gracie Smith, Lillian, Leah and Lilah Bowlby, and Landon, Riley, Taylor and Zayne Burkett; and many other relatives and friends.
