A home going celebration for Viola M. Clay was Wednesday, March 11, 2020, in the Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. Bishop Chester Lewis, Evangelist Bessie Lewis, the Rev. Brock Brown and the Rev. Jessie Reed officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Honorary casket bearers were Glenn Berry II, John Henry Clay Jr., Michael Rowe, Casey Walker, Gary Walker, Harold Walker, Henry Walker and Jeremy Walker.
Casket bearers were Koyi Clay, Moaka Clay, Paul Clay Jr., Tyrone Clay, Andre Omeke, Ojei Omeke and David Portley Jr.
Music included “I Shall Wear a Crown,” “God Can” and “Take Me Back,” with a special solo by the Portley Trio, “Well Done.”
Memorials have been established in Viola’s name for Bethel AME Church, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and Disabled American Veterans.
