Loren Burkhart

Loren Wilbur Burkhart, 96, of Arkansas City, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020, at Winfield Senior Living Center.

Memorial services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at Central Christian Church in Arkansas City. Private family committal services are at Rose Hill Cemetery in South Haven.

Loren was born Jan. 17, 1924, to Herbert and Ella (Fredrickson) Burkhart. He was reared and educated in South Haven, attending the Illinois one-room country school through eighth grade. He graduated from South Haven High School in 1943. He married Dorothy Hanson on June 30, 1946. The couple lived in South Haven during the first year of their marriage, then moved to Gary, Ind., where Loren worked for Chicago Bridge and Iron, then Ireland Steel for two years before returning to the South Haven-Arkansas City area, where he worked for State Line Booster Station. He later worked for Tubbs Motors in Arkansas City and Knapp Advertising in Ponca City, Okla. He spent 26 years working for Dixie-Portland Flour Mill (ADM East), retiring in 1987.

He was a longtime, faithful member of Central Christian Church in Arkansas City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Eugene Burkhart in 2009; nephew, Howard Burkhart in 2001; grandson, Shawn Wilson in 2014; and step-grandson, Keith Hollembeak in 2003.

Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Dorothy, of the home; son, Michael and wife, Jackie Burkhart, of Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters, Marcie and husband, Steve Hollembeak, of Winfield, Betty Ann and husband, Monte Marrs, of Colbert, Ga., and Ginny Mosconi, of Arkansas City; grandchildren, Robert Wilson, Michelle and husband, Rick Sproviero, Brandon Hollembeak, LorRae Jones, Tiffany and husband, Max Ardon, Cody and wife, Kristin Marrs, Kyle Marrs, Shane Fuller, and Jeri Mosconi; step-grandchildren, Alex and Dani Saban; great-grandchildren, Casey and Joey Day, Michael Sproviero, Indira, Esteban, Carol, Sofia, and Enzo Ardon, Isabella, Rebecca and Brandon Jones, Bradley and wife Kristy Pool, Lashaina, Breanna and Gabriella Fuller, and Harper and Caleb Marrs; step-great-grandchildren, Emily and husband, Joshua Schulke, Danielle Sproviero, and Ryan Saban; great-great-grandchild, Amelia Pool; step-great-great-grandchildren, Roxie and Aubrey, and Shay Schulke; and niece, Pamela Burkhart.
