Richard Alsip

Richard Dale Alsip Jr., 77, of Winfield, passed away Wednesday morning, Sept. 4, 2019, at William Newton Hospital.

Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at the Burden Cemetery in Burden. A visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. The family will greet visitors from 2 to 4 p.m.

Born April 2, 1942, in Arkansas City, Richard was the son of Richard Dale Sr., and Clara Mae (Rogers) Alsip. He was raised and received his early education in Kansas and Oklahoma before moving to Missouri, where he attended high school in Sedalia. Following school, Richard joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country. While in the Navy, he was stationed in Norfolk, Va. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Kansas and lived in Cambridge.

Richard married Darlene Hill on Nov. 19, 1966, in Oxford. The couple made their first home in Cambridge before moving to Winfield in 1968. Richard began his career at General Electric in 1966. He remained at GE for almost 40 years, retiring as a Triple A Inspector in 2005. Darlene preceded him in death on July 31, 2015.

Richard enjoyed bowling, playing video games and fishing. He also enjoyed going to the Cowley County Fair, particularly the Figure 8 races and the demolition derby.

In addition to his wife and parents, Richard was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonita Head.

His family includes his children, Anita Parker and husband, Tracy, of Kildare, Okla.; Richard Alsip III, of Winfield; Joletta Wilson and husband, David, of Winfield; Rebecca Crowley and husband, Robert, of Winfield; his brother, Larry Alsip and wife, Carolyn, of Ponca City, Okla.; his grandchildren, Tara Fry and husband, JR; Tracy Jordan and husband, Travis; Kali Wallace; Cassandra Snedeker and husband, Joe; Jessica Wilson and fiancé, Shane Himmaugh; Christina Alsip; Merika Benck and husband, Simon; Colton Parker; Amber Crowley; Michael Crowley; Deanna Denson and husband, Brock; and 17 great-grandchildren.
