Steve began life on Jan. 13, 1943, in Emporia, the son of John and Eleanor (Salmon) Jones. He attended and graduated from El Dorado High School.
He and Marilyn Wade married Nov. 6, 1970, in Winfield.
Steve was a hard worker and worked in several different fields. He was most proud of owning the A&W Root Beer Stand in Winfield. He also worked for Furley Co-Op and the Kansas Turnpike, drove school buses for El Dorado and held many other occupations.
Steve enjoyed playing and coaching softball. He loved sports of all kinds — his favorite teams were Kansas State and Wichita State universities. He especially enjoyed attending the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.
Steve loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and attended as many as he could.
He was preceded in death by his son, Brodie Jones; brother, John Jones; and his parents.
His greatest joy in life was his family, which includes his wife, Marilyn, of El Dorado; daughter, Sharon (Gary Jr.) Leister, of Kansas City; grandchildren, Kevin Leister (Bryanna Widener), of Greeley, Colo., and Gary Leister III and Shaun Leister, both of Chapman.
