I frequently go to Winfield’s Island Park to walk, sometimes in the morning and sometimes in the afternoon.
On Sunday, I went to the park to walk in the afternoon. I almost always walk a meandering route through the park along the roads and sidewalks, then across the foot bridge and along the sidewalk up to the dike. Then I turn around and retrace my path to return to my vehicle.
On Sunday, as I descended down the sidewalk from the dike, I noticed a couple walking with their dog. The dog stopped, and as a dog being walked so often does, the dog defecated on the grass. I observed the couple pull out a plastic bag, pick up their dog’s defecation with the bag. After getting the contents to the bottom of the bag, they knotted the top of the bag and took it to a nearby trash barrel, where they placed the bag.
I wish to express my thanks to this couple for their preparation and action to keep the park area clean for those of us who enjoy walking in the park, for the children who play in the park, for all who come at noon or evening to enjoy a meal in the park, and for the visitors who get a picture of Winfield by how we keep the park.
I would hope of the rest of us will follow this couple’s example and be good stewards and do our part to keep the park clean.
