OTTAWA — The Southwestern College volleyball team was swept Tuesday night at Ottawa 25-18, 25-17, 25-22.
The Lady Builders (15-8, 3-4 KCAC) saw success on the attack in the opening set, outhitting Ottawa 11-9. Unfortunately, some sloppy play was the downfall, with twice as many errors.
Southwestern rattled off five straight points on the serving hand of senior Emily White, who also finished with 22 digs.
Set two was a game of runs. After Southwestern scored the first couple of points, the Lady Braves (17-9, 6-1) scored 11 of the next 12 points to take an 11-3 advantage.
The Lady Builders cut the deficit to six at two different times, but the early hole was too much.
Both teams limiting their mistakes and capitalized on their attack opportunities in the third set. Southwestern hit 23 percent, but the Lady Braves were just below 30 percent.
Junior Alyxandra Blaker finished with a .308 hitting percentage and nine kills to lead Southwestern. Sophomore Kiralyah Jones and junior Kanami Ellis also hit above .200, chipping in six kills apiece.
The Lady Builders return home at 7 p.m. Oct. 23 against Oklahoma Wesleyan for Dig Pink Night at Stewart Field House.
